engine numbers

Hello Rich, according to my reference that block cast # of 3837004 is for a 1955-57 6 cyl. w/ single hole water pump. I couldn't quite distinguish the other #,can't help on that one. Hope this helps,good luck.

The casting date is either F23 5 or F29 5 so it appears to be a 55 block. The 56 and later head is an 848 casting, 8 to 1 compression. If it isn't I think the the 55 head is maybe a 913. Anyway a 55 head, 7 1/2 to 1 compression ratio, has a smaller hole for the water temp gauge so it won't accept the larger 56 and later water temp sending unit.

Ill check other numbers. This is in my 57. would there be any chance that this was put in at the factory?

Car was stored from '63 so I thought that this would have been an original engine?

Any other things I can check?

Thanks for all the input!

Yes: that is a 7 (behind starter) looks like F2957 in front of the starter on block is 3837004

I also found the numbers behind the distributor: T702B


I cannot find these in the reference links sent?

The link I sent is meant to be used with your Vin number. If you want to post it here we can help you figure out approximately what day your car was built.

If that's the original engine I would guess your car was probably built in mid to late July of 1957. With the Vin we could narrow it down.

They are correct. The 55-56 used an open linkage, unprotected solenoid. 57 came with the solenoid linkage enclosed in the starter nose.
