Some of you may remember the model kit under the same name produced by Revell back in the 70's. The first time I saw that kit, it reminded me of this car.
Teenager's that cruised Alki Beach (popular venue in Seattle) during the 60's and 70's saw a lot of this '54 Chevy. If it wasn't the stance that caught your eye, it was the paint scheme's. The owner changed it up about every couple years with something a little more zany. Currently the paint is a gray with rainbow flake over art deco graphics and highlighted with silver pearl. As you can see by the photos, he was doing some body repair before his untimely passing in 2012. He had owned the car since 1964. For me, there were a lot of firsts. The first car I ever saw lifted (a full 10"), first street car with a set back engine and with a Pontiac 389; first street car running M & H Racemaster slicks, and first 49-54 car with a tilt front end. The owner found out fast that steering a car that high would not negotiate a turn very well and eventually lowered it down to 7" above stock along with revising the draglink. The throttle pedal was pretty challenging. He mounted it on the engine enclosure which meant he drove "spread eagle" while working the clutch. What we did to be cool! Today the pedal has been relocated to the floor. The engine is no longer Pontiac. The owner changed it to a 350 Chevy with a turbo 350 back in the year 2000. But it still has the '57 Pontiac rear axle.
I don't plan to change much since it is a time capsule and a part of my teenage years.
Enjoy a blast from the past!
