My 57 with a Rochester 2 jet, inline filter, and mechanical fuel pump loses its prime in 24 hours. I have to dump gas in the carb to get it running. Once it's running it runs like A champ. After shutdown, 24 hours later the inline filter is dry, and it won't start without a gas dump in the carb. I thought it was siphoning through the fuel pump, so I changed it, the rubber fuel lines and inline filter. I would guess the carb has some issue, but it seems to run fine other than the prime issue. Anybody have this experience?

The system cannot siphon the fuel bowl of the carb dry by design. Your line & filter may drain back some but that won't drain the carb and cause the problem you are having. You have either an accelerator pump or choke issue, Possibly both.

I'm thinking a re-build of the carb, might be in order, but still can't understand how the filter could go dry in such a short time. I can understand the carb leaking into ththe intake, but it doesn't make any sense for the fuel line to be empty so quick.

Can an admin move this to the carb/fuel section? I couldn't find it when I made the original thread.

Think so too, carb rebuild. Mike
