Is the engine compartment the same size in the 55 Chevy and the 57 Chevy? Does the 454 and the 572 take up the same amount of space?
'57 is different than '55-'56, primarily in the firewall, heater, fresh air intake, and battery placement. 572 is larger than 454 due to stroke and required oil pan. A;so 572 generally has tall heads, both the pan and heads impact engine placement and header fitment. Also, most available headers are not really suitable for a 572 anyway unless you want to choke it from breathing. A 454 would be simpler to swap in a '55'57.

I saw one get stuffed into a 55-57 on that show where they come steal your car then finish it for you as a surprise. About the only thing they said about that 572 was a firewall modification.

I too would like to see the finished install. Seen the 348 and 454.s To me that is a job. Mike

It will fit in any year Trifive.

The 57 has the lowest hood height compared to 55/56.

If you want the engine to remain under the hood in a 57 there is modifications done to the firewall and chassis frame up front.

That's not entirely true. I moved my BBC 2 3/4 inches forward, moved the radiator to the 6 cylinder position, and used a short water pump without having to modify the firewall. I'm not sure what Ang is talking about but there is also no need to modify the chassis either. :tu

As previously mentioned, the 572 crate motor is a tall deck. That does create more clearance issues. The heads are spread further apart and they sit higher creating some different firewall issues. The motor will need to be moved quite a bit forward. This can create oil pan issues and hood clearance issues due to the slope of the 57 hood. It also has a higher carb height creating some hood clearance issues as well. It can be done but requires some massaging to make it fit. Header clearance becomes an issue as well due to the wider dimension caused by the raised cylinder head. You can build a large displacement standard deck and the fit is much easier. 57's are a little tighter under the hood.
