When I bought my 57, the grill bar was cracked and the emblem broke. Didn't think nothing of it because someone obviously had a little accident along the way as it had a silver grill and no louvers in the fenders, and it's a true belair. So, bought a gold belair grill and bar from a local guy that was almost new. Installed no problems, but now I've noticed a small hair line crack starting from the top corner near the emblem of the bar. The crack could've been there when I bought it, but I think I would've caught it earlier. What could be causing that? I don't slam the hood closed and I really haven't driven it much since installing the bar?

vibration , has to be ?

Cracked grille bars and missing chunks from around the emblem on 57 Chevys have been with us since at least February of 1957! Vibration and overtightening must do it, there's many cars that had that problem that could never have hit anything there. They used to sell caps for the emblem area of the grille bar so you wouldn't have to buy the whole thing.

The crack is starting top left of emblem area. I was very careful when I installed as to not overtighten anything, and like I said, I haven't hardly driven it over 20 miles since install?

Sounds like the brackets or something else is bent or out of align and putting the grille bar in a bind.

It is a true Bel Air and has a silver grille and no fender louvers? What is the VIN#? That is the correct way of determining if it is a Bel Air or not. A "B" indicates a 210. A "C" indicates a Bel Air.
