I switched to an alternator, put a new starter in with the 350 transmission, new battery and cables.Went to go for a drive this evening, had been driving for about an hour, made a turn on to the highway and the car died. Tried to start the car and got nothing. All the lights worked but I could not get the starter to turn. I also put a new ignition switch in recently. Looking forward to your help as always.

Hi Jim. I'm a nite person too. Last one give advise on this but sounds like the alternator is not replacing the juice to the batt. Guys that know will be here in the morning. Interested in the reply because am running off the battery only at this time. Lloyd

The second symptom, won't crank while lights still work sounds like a loose connection to the starter - The large cable needs to carry a lot of amperage, but since your car also shut down, maybe its losing the juice somewhere back at the ignition switch. Meaning no volts to solenoid and ignition as well? Since the switch is new maybe you should re-check all the connections to it.

It sounds like the "new ignition switch" went bad. The black wire on the ignition switch provides power to the red wire, which feeds the headlights. The black and red wires are tied together by the common terminal on the switch. If the lights are working, your getting power to the ignition switch. The switch provides power to the coil and starter solenoid through the contacts in the switch. A loose connection at the black wire can cause the contacts to heat up and burn. jim, check the wires on the ign switch too. i had a broken wire there once :stupido2:..............:anim_25:

Any parts store should have the flasher, it was used for a number of years. Ask for a Tridon #552 thermal flasher.
