A friend of mine's father was an engineer for Chrysler. He bought one of those new ('62 model) and still had it upon his death last year - His had an aluminum block slant 6 in it! I suspect my friend has it now, or one of his siblings... He called it 'the mongoose'... :)

High school buddy had a black one. It was ugly but he loved it. It never let him down.......

And if you were in Aus or otherwise 'downunder', this is the way it may have looked.. :)

My Dad had one when I got my driver's license. I think I liked it back then because it was better than walking, and helped with the girls. The only problem with the slant 6 was when you ran through a lot of water it would cut off.....

Super reliable slant six but ugly as all get-out. "Virgil Exner and Dr. Frankenstein walk into a bar, and Virgil has his sketch pad with him..." :)

Fortunately, the styling improved over the next decade, ultimately evolving into the Duster. I don't care that Liberty Mutual commercials with dorky "Doug" and his emu sidekick cruise around in a Duster - that was a pretty good looking car in that era. Being seen driving a 340 Duster was nothing to be ashamed of.

I owned a 73 Duster with a 340 for a short period of time.
