Just ordered a new rear end from Quick Performance. Having second thoughts about the noise the gears will make. I called them and went thru the rear end build with them and went with what was recommended. Motive and true-trac.
I spent some time reading about 9" gear noise and found a Hemmings article.

Quick Performance sells some gears from Strange that seems to use the same language (stealth, hobbing)

Looking for an opinion. Should I redo my order to include the stealth gears?
57 400hp auto , I doubt it will ever see a 1/4 mile but when I am gone my son probably will.
Thank you,
Mike

Any properly set up gears should be silent. What you should have ordered was an Eaton style posi. Not that Ford Trac loc junk

I'd love to find a nice 12-bolt to replace my existing stock (with Eaton posi) rear end.
I'll be swapping out the TH400 for a TKX 5-speed this winter, and I'd feel better with a stronger rear assembly.

True trac is not the same as Ford TracLoc (which came in two and four pinion differential, 28 and 31 spline side gears and had clutch packs). If I’m not mistaken True Trac differentials have no clutches only gears, I like to think of them like Detroit lockers (noisy, rough action clutchless locker) that are civilized, quiet, smooth in action and also church free.

I’ve had some really quiet Richmond gear sets and some really noisy Zoom gears. Also find that drag racing gear sets (special alloy to live in those conditions) are more likely to make noise.
I’ve run Traclocs, Eaton, spool, they all performed well for me, I’ve broken axles, u-joints, carrier housings, transmissions (input shaft wrung in two, broken internals), pressure plates. Never broke a differential.

I have 2 center sections, 1 with Richmond gears and 1 with Motive gears, both quiet as church mice. F.W.I.W. the center section with the Richmond gears was set-up by me, and the center section with the Motive gears was set-up by Strange Engineering. So they must be pretty good quality if strange is using them alongside of their own brand.

Eaton also sells or sold clutch pack differentials, in fact I believe they had two versions with different spring pressures meant for different applications. Saying you are putting in an ‘Eaton’ is akin to saying you’re installing TRW pistons (they make a variety of different ones for different applications). Back thirty years ago when I was flushing money away trying to sportsman drag race and other performance events I ran a Detroit Locker and it was not at all quiet or smooth, however under torque it delivered pwr to the ground in a way the kept me straight and controlled.

Thank you,
On the QP 9" flyer it talks about asking for quieter options. I did ask and was told their rear ends are pretty quiet. I did pay the extra $125 for 31 spline truetrac. Maybe truetrac is the quieter option. I will say I know very little about rear ends.
The receipt does not mention Moser or Eaton. I do remember the salesman saying Moser.

I’ve built 9” fords for 40 years and out of all the ones I built I think I had maybe 3 or 4 that made any noise
Pulled them back out and readjusted them
Things happen when you get in a hurry on Saturday afternoon on a locker if it starts to make funny nosies on corners go to a parking lot and just turn the wheel all the way to right or left and do slow circles 4 or 5 one way then go the other way 4 or 5
The clutch packs will stick to each other and dry out when you do the turns it opens up the packs and lets fresh oil get back to the clutch’s also make sure that who ever builds your unit uses shims and not the crush sleeve
Under very hard acceleration it will losen the bearing on the piñon
