Taken from Auggie56,

Do not use cinder blocks to hold up your car.......USE quality jack stands!!!

Years ago, I had a neighbor who would jack his car up on cinder blocks, two on each corner. And for added safety he would but two flimsy screw jacks on the frame. This one time he had a 65' Chrysler up as I described. He wanted me to check and oil leak he was having. I told him no way. And he scoffed and told me it was solid. He then reached out and pushed on the fender, as the car came falling down.

I used to do lots of stupid stuff like that when I was younger, crawl under one with nothing but a bumper jack holding it up, now as an old timer safety comes first...

Don't even do what the guy in this pic is doing......

I was looking at the mis-matched tires... Geez. Some people have no sense of pride in their tires!

Paging Dr. Darwin, Dr. Darwin. Please report to the sidewalk. You have a patient in the waiting room...

Well you can see that he must have already tried the bumper jack on the corner....it's missing a big chuck. The only other viable option were those worn 2x4's....I mean really, I would have at least used new 2x4's.:D

cinder blocks

tdi about 45 years ago a teen who lived near here had a 55 desoto up on cement blocks that fell and killed him. Up until that time lots of folks around here would use concrete blocks those with 3 holes to prop up cars. It is a wonder that lots of us did survive being young and stupid  Randall

If i`m not mistaken that pic is of a guy in argentina, or puerto rica. I have seen it before and that is what comes to mind. I would like to see how he got it up high enough to get the 2x`s under it like that.

I considered a few options for having my 56 on " blocks" last spring.
Solid cinder blocks & 6" x 6" landscape timbers were not acceptable.
I had one set of jackstands ( came with my floor jack) from the local sears, then I hit harbour freight, and found a very sturdy/stable set of jack stands for about 65$.
I recall the stamped metal jack stands that were very common when I was around 16 yo ( 1976), it still scares me thinkin about em
Craigslist is another option, I 've found that some of the engine stands/ lifts/ jackstands etc, just go from owner to owner ( buy em - use em- sell em).
No substitute for safety.
