Man, I LOVE the gasser look! I'm leaning that way with my '57. How authentic do you want your car to look? Are you going to go straight axle, or use ball joint spacers? The new current issue of Car Kulture Deluxe has a five-page story on gassers that might be worth checking out. There are three '55s pictured in various types of construction, including a mid-engine, wheel-standing Nomad. Those Halibrand knock-offs look pretty sweet, but my personal taste is chrome reverse all the way 'round, like Falfa's '55! Build it to suit your taste! Tim

I'm really debating doing the straight axle..I cant weld:eek:I'm thinking of taking some courses a local Tech College,just for that reason....I'm all over the place with how I want it to look....Definetley Gasser style but:rolleyes:...There's so many different things I like its just driving me up a damn wall figuring out how I want mine:(

Falfa55, I will not say this right but i will give it my best without sounding negative:rolleyes::) If i were you and i was in search of wheel one the things i would consider is what kind of reputation do these wheel have along with the sellers responsibility should something go southtdi, staying with a company that has a good name and has a good safety rating is the first thing i would consider and i do not see this in these wheels mostly due to the fact i have never heard of them and they are off brand. Just food for thought is this is the wheel that you will feel comfortable with going down the track or a highway?.

I also like the look of these wheels, But I would also ask about a satisfaction gurantee or something, I also noticed they seem to have , excuse me for a better description but looks like large lug holes, Maybe they require a special type of lug nut,

I would call and ask questions but if all answers were to my your satisfaction then they look great.

He does have a great feedback rating so that seems positive.

otis:)

They look great! I would be concerned about quality. Like Otis said, I would call. Let us know what you decide to do.

Falfa;

I agree with everyone else on the quality question.....the old saying "you get what you pay for" holds true. If you are considering going gasser, there are many options other than Halibrand style wheels. Go to this site and look at the many options including Halibrand replicas to Altered Spokes. Fair prices.

wheels?

probably one of the hardest decision you have to make,other than paint color.i agree with most of the other statements,it depends how your going to use the car,a fairground cruiser,local cruise night or are you going to be driving on the highway alot, but i have seen some wheels come apart before,not a pretty sight. i've always had good luck with American Racing wheels and the"Ansen sprint" model might give your car that right look and i think you can get them in a custom offset if needed.hope this helps good luck:tu

If they offered 15 x 8’s with a 4½ inch backspace I would get a set for my ’56. They look nice and the price is reasonable (if they don’t wobble :rolleyes:).

An 8 inch wheel with only 4 inches of backspace will put 255/60-15 rear tires into the fender with a stock (width) rear end. The 15 X 7’s with 4” of BS would fit nice on the front with 235/60-15 tires.

Falfa;

If you're considering a straight axle versus spacers/coils, I would research before going with Speedways setup. If you read the Shaky Puddin frontend build, you'll note that he mentioned that frontend and indicated that it is too narrow. If you go with a 50's truck frontend, you'll look like this..Read the build and scroll down to the front view of the car. Too narrow in my opinion and total butcher of the frame.

I measured my stock frontend outside drum to outside drum and it is 57".

Most folk suggest a 60's Econoline frontend and it supposedly will adapt to the 55 frame rail with little modification. I haven't verified this for myself.
