Took the 55 to the track friday night to setup my Cal tracs and see how they would work with the drag radials.. Made 3 passes 1/8th mile runs, I wasn't looking to set the world on fire just wanted to dial in the chassis, and not break anything.. Met those goals and am happy for the first time out with this car. Wanted to weigh the car but they didn't have scales... Let me know what you all think..

1st pass = 1.93 60ft. / 9.23et / 59 mph pulled left , spun tires, let off

2nd pass = 1.62 60ft. / 6.77et / 105mph spun tires again

3rd pass = 1.47 60ft. / 6.82 et / 84 mph let off thought I was past the stripe, never raced at this track.. Dumb move on my part..

when you set up the bars did you have your weight in the seat?? set the bars to 1/2 turn pre-load?? if so then add 1/4 turn at a time to the side that the car pulls to until it goes straight. if you did not have your weight in the seat then you need to start over. 1.47 60' time is pretty good . that will get you a low 10 second pass in the quarter mile

Big MPH, so you have low 10's in it for sure. Here is a decent comparison for reference on my best pass to date that will give you an idea on 1/4 time you'll be around.
1.438 60', 6.577 @ 104.26 in the 1/8 and went 10.376 @ 128.70 in the 1/4.

You are making a lot of HP for sure.

cal tracs

I am installing CalTracs and new 5 leaf rear springs on my '57 this week, I would be thrilled with 1.4 60' times. Car currently has 'clip-on' chrome slapper bars from the 60's 0r 70's and the original springs have a visible sag where the snubber contacts the single leaf about 6-8 inches behind the eyelet. I have Caltracs on a bracket car and it 60's 1.3 t 1.4 and mph's 122-124 in quarter, however, it has 10' slicks. My 57 has 17" rims with 275/40/17 street radials which will likely be replaced prior to TFN and fun runs, any dual purpose tire suggestions?

Now to answer the rest of the questions,
1. track prep was not very good.
2. Launch off the foot brake 1800rpm all 3 runs
3. All steel except hood, no front bumper, thur the mufflers
4. 496 pump gas engine..NA No power adders, E-85, :party0031:
5. M/T 295/65R15 Drag Radials

Yes it was fun, first time down the track in almost 20 years, going back as soon as the weather cools back down.. Good thing from the times I did get it, the 330' picked up from 4.62 sencond pass to 4.26 the last past that's very encouraging...

No heat or air,no wiper motor just the wipers and what they attach to. Rain -x :tu
No radio or power steering, factory manual box, I rebuilt, tubular upper a-arms heavy as factory. No inner fenders, No back seat.
Factory steel floor, quarters, doors, windows, fenders, facotry front bench seat, steel rear bumper and brackets. I made the trunk floor and sides with 18 gauge steel.

Aluminum radator, electric w/p, alu. heads. Fiberglass hood..There are lots of things I can still do to cut weight. I built it to the vision I had in my head.. Still have some tuning issues to fix before I go back to the track..

The Drag Radials are tricky and need really good track prep

The guys that race in the drag radial heads up class - have those cars dialed in with lots of tuning and they replace tires frequently

I had a set of 315 M/T drag radials on by 55 with ladders bars.
i switched to 11.5 or 10.5W hard wall slicks and the car got very consistent. I did not have the skill or time to make the radials work right.

my time slip is the right lane

It is a SBC 421 with a turbo 400
I weighted 3384 with a 190 pound driver
It was all steel with a 10 point cage.
I was tried to get it to 6.50 for a local index class bought a new 1100 dominator and a new intake. Bought a new front clip and a glass hood But then discovered while shimming valve springs that I had two valve guides that were loose. So a year later we almost ready to get back to the track
Got the heads fixed and ported new shaft rockers installed the new intake and carb also did some rewiring and ditched the inner fender wells.
Relearned a lesson don't take too much stuff apart at one time.

With the heads fixed and the other stuff you should be able to met your goal.. Keep us updated when you get to the track..You run NA ? I also found a issue with mine, that i have fixed, so I should in theory pickup some.. I'm not going back till the weather gets better..

My car has a "California" one-piece frame, which I believe is a bit lighter than the two-piece frames.

I was surprised how much my bucket seats weighted. 70lbs each they were "A" body GM seats mid sixties.

Sold them for $750.00 !! - but the aluminum seats I put in were a fraction of the weigh

exhaust system 3" exhaust with a cross pipe exited in front of the rear tire - 50 to 60 lbs too

here is a good link to trifive weights
