For those that havent heard yet, from Chris Sondles

Here`s something to pass on to members and the forums. No one under 21 will be allowed driving a golfcart at the Nationals. There is a sea of carts as it is and between safety and protecting the walking traffic and the cars from damage, this is a must. We as ambassadors will help in the policing.

It may not be what some had hoped for but it is a start, the situation will be more closely monitored this year.

Anyone who has any questions or if I can be of any help in any way please feel free to contact me here or by Email a57belairman@yahoo.com

well ,I am in the minority I suppose but I am happy to be able to use my cart. I am 71 and at smaller shows and races I can get around somewhat ,but with the size of the show at Bowling Green there is no way I can walk that much. I do have a handicap sticker and try to just not joy ride . I go from one area to the other and then park and walk. I plan on attending this event for the coming years so I am glad maybe this will work .
Sorry to all of those who think I should be able to get along without the cart.

I think your missing the point, you and those like you are not the problem, the issue is the overabundance of carts. Its a volatile issue all the way around, the staff is aware something needs to be done about it and no matter what is done not everyone is going to be happy. Restricting it to 21 yrs old and above is a start.

I can't remember exactly where I saw it, but it was stated on the website or email receipt or somewhere that only handicapped golf carts would be allowed at the past two events. doesn't really matter now because the events already happened. the website is changed now so looking there will not help. Trust me, I saw it and when I saw the motorized Coca-Cola cooler tooling around both days at the 2015 event, I thought well, so much for that :sign0020:

edit:
you can look at this page:
https://www.thetrifivenationals.com/contact.html
and see right at the top that golf carts are only for handicapped

Not me joe cool. Like I said in an earlier thread, I had a very elderly gentleman stop at my car. He wanted to talk inline motors and no one was going to stop him. He was being driven around by his nephews (both older then 21). He made his nephews bring him back a couple of times. They were apologetic, I was honored. No way could that man have walked the show, no way. The cart allowed him to be at the show and do something more then sit in a chair all day. The nephews were considerate of the cars and the road and the people around them. So it's a blessing to those who need them

That was not always the case with others. In fact, from my observation, the worst offenders, blocking the roads, stopping and starting while on the roads, creating dangerous situations, were those that really did not need a cart to get around in the first place. I think if everyone can simply be cognizant of their surroundings, give way to the cars and people, and be courteous, it should work out. If not, I suspect the restrictions may get tighter. Let's hope that does not come to pass. Getting the kids out of the driver's seat of the carts is in my opinion the least intrusive start. Let's see how it goes. I am sure this issue can be worked out.

Na, no reason for that, at least in my opinion. Those that needed them for just those reasons were not the problem. It was the sheer volumn of those that had them only for the convenience of it as opposed to really needing one, and the failure to be cognizant of their surroundings.

I used a golf cart the first year & displayed my placard. I spent two days stopping often to take pictures & talk. I did try to keep out of the way of the cars & people. I noticed that most carts were rented by non disabled people.

There was alot of beer being consumed by people on carts. Not cool!

Even the little scooters are dangerous when driven poorly. I was at a show with you Jim when an "older" gentleman accidentally hit the throttle and ran into my car, putting a dent and scratch in it. I can't even count the times I have been hit or bumped by guys on them driving as if they are the only ones on the path.

1) Hi Gary
2) Golf Carts. IMO, I would rather see a Gentleman & possibly his Lady , who needs said device to get around, be there than stay home. Not enjoy themselves and whatever hobby or passion they have.
3) That being said, we have all seen it. Who needs the Carts ? And who has to have a Cart. My be we have a little problem in our U.S.A. ?
4) Hi Gary

Hi back, and Dont shoot Im just the messenger. No matter how you look at it its a touchy subject. The show covers a large area and it does help to have wheels. The biggest problem being the amount of them on site, where do you draw the line. The administrative staff is well aware of the concerns.

I think those that need them should have them. My wife was almost hit with one but it was kids not paying attention and going to fast. If I had not grabbed her and pulled her back she would have been ran over Twice!!. I am sure the Staff will be on alert this year for those types of things. Going to miss this years show.

It was an adult male that almost run over me near Danny's Rod Shop booth. He was traveling way to fast and I let him know that if he had hit me he would be in need of some major dental reconstruction work. The whole time my wife just keeps repeating my name Dave,Dave,Dave attempting to calm me down.

I've already rented mine, but I saw somewhere that a handicapped placard was needed to use the cart at the show.
I don't have any trouble getting around, but I rented the cart for my wife. The heat is just too much for her and I want her to be at the show with me. Having a cart for her simplifies things greatly.
We don't have a placard though and I don't want to lose the money I've already put on the credit card for the cart.
I sent a note to the cart rental place, but they did not respond.

here is the official word on Golf Carts
Here's the scoop. While some folks bring there own carts , and the number of rental carts is limited , here is our stance. Hopefully everyone using a cart uses one because they are handicapped, have just had surgery etc. In other words , that small percentage , probably about one percent or so are using them because they NEED too. What we prefer is those using golf carts are for that reason. Not kids joyriding or folks speeding around, as what has happened in the past. Safety for our members, and the public who attend the show is of the utmost importance, along with avoiding an accident that would result in damage to a car o injury to a person. Hopefully the mindset of our members and the majority of the public that attends would be that carts should be for our older , handicapped folks to see the show. Last year we posted sentry folks from the track to keep anything but handicapped out of the infield track area , also for safety reasons. What it comes down to also is that every topic that pops up , while we will try to address it, we are not going to make everybody happy. Bottom line , no one under 21, unless handicapped, and while cart rental company has x amount to rent, when there rented out , there gone. Hopefully that will be to people who need them. We will not be policing that part of it. We as ambassadors will be looking for erratic behavior that could threaten the success of the show, and keeping a watchful eye on that possible under 21 driver posing a potential threat to a safe and fun for all show. Thanks.

Last year the number of golf carts was a HUGE problem (for those of us walking the meet), and many of them were totally inconsiderate of the walkers.. stopping/parking their carts in the center of walk lanes, etc.

I think the meet organizers should REQUIRE a person to demonstrate their handicapped situation before allowing them to use one.

I also think for others, if there were a few 'show personnel' wtih golf carts to aide anyone needing a long ride from one side of the show site to the other, or to help people who had overheated/over exhausted themselves (handicapped or not).

Marked golf cart lanes vs walk lanes would also help...
