When I bought my 56 it had been sitting in a barn for 8 years. The guy I bought it from brought it home for me.My son and I were going thru all the parts that were inside the car. My son said he saw something move.It was a very large possum and he was not happy about being moved from the barn.We had parts scattered all over the yard. We nevered stepped on none of them as we tooked off runing.Im 49 and I out ran my son trying to get away from that thing. We can laugh at it now but it was not funny then.

I get possums in my yard and sometimes they procreate in my shed -- despicable creatures they are! However, I've never been startled by one, more often they get startled by us or the dogs. It's funny how we react sometimes, isn't it? Too bad you didn't have a camera, or a gun!?

Possum bashing

Those things must live everywhere. Every once in awhile one will wander into our backyard and tangle with my German Shepherd right here in suburbia.

Last time my wife went to see what was the ruckus the dog was taking this possum by the tail and flinging it as far as he could or trying to bash it on the ground from side to side like they do. She (my wife) had the dog come inside to leave it alone.

Well, I went out and picked the body up by the tail and put it out next to the garbage can in the front yard. Next to, not in. In the morning it was gone. I don't think playing dead was going to help it either since the dog would have kept bashing it, dead or alive, like it was a toy or something all night long.

I came out one day to put trash in my can and heard something in the can. I raised the lid and there was an opossum. I walked back inside, grabbed my 9MM, went back out and shot it in the can (no pun intended). The can was on the driveway and by the time I got back from stowing away the 9, there was huge puddle of red stuff. My wife said it served me right having to clean it up. She said 'All you would have had to do was tip the can over away from you and it would have run away". She was right, but I figured it would have come back.
