There are some of the gear ratio numbers listed in the shop manual.

A little googling gave me a website that says it is a 56 Vette rear. Not much else.

 

if that is out of a 56 vette go straight to E-pay with it! those vette guys are nuts over that kind of stuff. you can find e "regular" one for cheap to replace it

The casting number I believe is for 55 & 56 passenger & corvette. The AB is a 3.55:1 powerglide rear end. The 3 26 is March 26. I belive in 55 they used numbers for day and month, in 56 they used letters for the month, numbers for the day.

 

I thought the vette center had posi with a "P" stamped in them-(this center is posi but no "P")
I also thought it was out of a later car by the 4 after the gm--That's why I have been asking. Thanks for the help so far guys!!! Keep it coming!

 

My numbers book says it's a 56 rearend with no posi rear end available til dec. of 56 which would be the letter L. The casting date is right next to the part no. There is also a light stamp in the third member which would tell you the build date if you can find it. Bob

 

Thanks picker--that leads me to ugh-I hope the spiders are not welded.
I guess I am going to wait till later to open that rear up! LOL
