Ballast resistors again!

I have a 55 Bel Air it runs ok but I dont have a resisitor on the firewall. It has original points type ignition. What is the down side of not having a resitor? If you convert from points to electronic do you still need the resistor?

go with electronic ign is the only way to go :wavey:, and no resistor with electronic ignition systems.

If you have no resistor, you have 12 volts going to coil all the time. Should just have it during start up.

The ballast resister helps save your points from burning up prematurely. Go with electronic ign.

I run a electronic mallory dizzy and run 2 reisitors. It will depend on what ignition system you change two. If you run a points replacment unit like pertronics, you will need to keep the resistor.
