I just did the break-in on my 454. I'm trying to get the timing set but I am unsure of the correct way. After the initial firing the engine seemed to run ok so I left the distributor alone. After the break-in I tried to restart the motor and it back fired through the carb so I suppose the timing is off. After moving the distributor some I was able to restart the engine. I hooked up the timing light and moved the distributor both ways and viewed the balancer with the timing light. Yep I could see the white line moving on the balancer as I turned the distributor. The timing light has a dial on the back of it. Where does it need to be set? Where does the white line on the balancer need to be on the timing tab?
