Brake pedal question...

My project right now is replacing a pedal assembly in an '55 original 6cyl/man brakes to a treadle vac power assembly. My problem is the pedal I was given doesn't seem to fit correctly. I have the lever assembly hooked up along with the link that connects to the pedal, but the link holds the pedal to close to the floor-and yes, the plunger to the treadle vac is extended completely. The other thing I noticed with another assembly we had laying around was the pedal pad was welded center on one arm, and offset on another. Anybody know whats going on? This one has me scratching my head...:confused0006:

Here's a picture of a PB pedal and a non-PB pedal. These are the same from 55-57.

The pedal on the left is the PB pedal, does yours look exactly like this? Note that the hole for the linkage is a little lower than on the manual brake pedal. The pad is welded on a little off center to the left, and there's a small bracket spot welded near the top for the brake light switch. When installed, the pedal is much closer to the floor than the manual brake pedal.

Make sure you have the correct lever assembly too. The 55-56 lever is different from the 57 version. The long arm on the 55-56 lever has a bend in it, if it's straight then it's a 57 lever.

You have an automatic transmission, right?

Thanks a million! The pedal on the left is the one we just painted and getting ready to install in about 30 minutes-the one on the right is the one we're taking out. We have a powerglide in it right now hooked to a 265, and our lever assembly does have a bend in it, so I'm hoping it should go together a little smoother than the first go 'round.

It's also a good idea to bench bleed the Treadle-Vac master cylinder, so you can tilt the front of the MC down so as not to trap air. This can be done on the car if you've already installed it, just lift the rear up a little.
