can you tell the difference between base coat and single stage paint

A paint shop would always apply a label to any can they filled. If yours doesn't have a label, it was likely poured to a new container?? Not sure if there's a way to tell paint that hasn't been sprayed? Any informed answer you get will be informative to many of us.. :)
