After doing an intake manifold gasket repair, I fired it up & it shut down just fine. Try a few minutes later & now it won't shut down w the key. I have an AAW harness, two wire alt (brn/red wires) w/ a summit elec. ign box, & pertronix dist. I've read here about a diode. Do these have arrows indicating current flow?, & if so which way is it installed. Any help would be much appreciated.

Larry.

Did you change distributor? The diode goes in series with the brown wire with the stripe on the alternator toward the alternator. A 3 amp diode from Radio Shack will work.

It just seems odd that since I re-wired the car last year, everything has worked just fine. I installed the dist. over the winter with no prob. so far this summer. I picked up a diode today & will install this evening.

Did you disconnect the alternator and did you check the wiring, brown on the #1 left terminal looking at back of alternator? I know, the plug is supposed to go only one way IF it's keyed. That's the "IF".
