I had basically the same problem; several new alternators quit working, to include 160 amps etc.

Finally I figured out while running the big block put out so much heat and the regulator, built into the alternator, would overheat and stop working.

So the answer was to get an alternator with dual fans, one internal and one external, And that the regulator instead of inside the alternator likes most are, the regulator was mounted to the rear of the alternator.

Solved the problem, Nascar also runs the dual fan type alternator for the same reason.

The alternator type is a cs130

otis :)
