If it is an original column the tab is a bent up metal tab on the inner shift tube. This cannot be replaced, unless the inner shift tube is replaced. Usually the plastic tab on the switch breaks off. The switch has a metal section to it, and the ears are slotted so the switch can move some in either direction as is needed for best contact to the metal tab on the shift tube.
Used OEM switches were lubed with white lithium grease and over time this dries and will cause the switch to hang up. I have taken the switches apart and cleaned them and used a synthetic lube and they usually work just fine.
