I think you've been given sound advice from the previous posts.. I only add my 2 cents from my personal experience and the mistakes I've made on this subject. Since your car is apart, this is indeed a good time to do some upgrades, even if these upgrades are for future enhancements, like that big 383 you want.

IMO, now is the time to step up and do a good quality crossflow radiator (there are several on the market) that is designed to mount in the 6 cyl position in front of the core support. Then get the Spal twin 11" electric fan module (Ebay has this for a good price) that fits inside the "U" of your core support on the engine side. You will need to fab up some simple brackets. Invest in a dual-relay system to power up the fans using a temp switch in your intake manifold to activate them. Once you do this, your current and future cooling issues are history. Also if you ever choose to install A/C, you will have a cooling system that is ready to go.. and being in the 6 cyl position, out of the way..
