Rad Cap Leaking

Hey Guy's,

I'm running a bb 427 in my 55 - I have an aluminum desert cooler rad and the engine temp runs about 180 when cruising and about 195 at idle. I have an overflow with a 16 psi cap - today my cap starts leaking and I lifted the relief handle on the top of the cap and instead of going out the bypass line into the overflow it sprayed everywhere!!! now the cap is new and just started leaking - I can get a new cap no problem but am I running the wrong style cap? is this a possible sign of another issue? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I don't like this style of rad cap. I have had several fail in the past and now just use a standard cap.
I watched a guy replace a head gasket on a Dodge Neon once, only to discover it had a bad radiator cap. OUCH!

I loaned him my pressure tester. The next week, he bought one from the Snap On dealer.

Mine is just like R66's........I also took one and cut the spring out and made a gas cap out of it. Looks good when I open the gas door.
