My wonderful wife (of 53 years) and I took some personal papers for my daughter down to her office, she's a Court Clerk. We had been there about 15 minutes wen my daughter yelled Mom! Mom!. I looked at my wife and she appeared to be thinking of an answer. She suddenly went limp, I tried to catch her and ended up squeezing her against a cabinet as she slid to the floor, with her legs doubled under her, completely unconscious. I yelled call emergency (couldn't think of 911) and both my daughter and the other court clerk called 911. A couple of minutes later my wife said my ankle hurts, still unaware of what was going on. I moved her legs so that she was more comfortable sitting on the floor leaning against the inside corner sides of the cabinets. In about 3-4 minutes 2 police officers arrived with their red boxes (heart zappers) and my wife was still groggy about what was going on. Less than 15 minutes after the 911 calls, the ambulance crew arrived and they took over. after checking her out they loaded my wife on a stretcher headed for the ambulance, my wife still a little foggy.
They let me ride in the ambulance as they took her for a 3 block ride to the emergency room arriving there at a little after 12 noon. Spent the rest of the afternoon in ER while they did tests, cat scan, ekg, blood pressure and such. Finally admitted at around 6:30 - 7:00 PM for an over night stay for observation..
More tests scheduled for this morning that have been done but more test for this afternoon. Her regular heart doctor is in Africa on a mission but another heart doctor (Mine) in the same cardiology group will see her this afternoon.
You don't know what it is like to see your loved one limp as a rag doll falling and you have no power to stop it and have no idea what has happened. I am so thankful that it happened where it did. If at home or on the road, assistance would have been a lot longer coming and if she had been driving it could have been catastrophic.
