Bought this Delray in '69, all orig. 235, Pg (for 50.00!). Drove it home, yanked the six & auto. In went a 327/340, 4speed. Thrashed it for a while, & in the meantime started my post high school education driving my 55 Belair 2 Dr sdn. Had to part with that one cause I kept breaking the drive line (19 y.o. knucklehead). Bought a 64 malibu SS. In the meantime the 57 just sat at the parents place, & my brother bugged me till I sold it to him around '70-'71. He had it finished... Painted twice, re- chromed everything, tires, mags - got a L79 for it... just needed the interior done. Around '80-81 lost his steel mill job, and the car just sat, while kids & life took precedence. It stayed that way for almost 40 years! We made a deal on it, & home with me it came!! I finally got the mechanicals done, & have been enjoying driving it. Meanwhile, Im still trying to figure out a direction for this sweet old friend!

You have a great back story, been in the family since IT was only 12 year old, you know the history and over all condition. I see a 67 Chevelle SS in the background, so you know performance. So do you take the trip back to original, Personally I like the way it sits now, some re-chromed pieces but a "57 2 dr Delray sedan, says it all !!

If it still has the L79 and four speed, keep it old school just the way it is. If it were mine I would polish or clean up the chrome and stainless and maybe drop the stance down a tad bit. Make sure you've got disc brakes on the front and maybe anti-sway bars front and rear so it corners well. Eventually maybe replace or upgrade the steering to a CPP500 unit. That's it. Enjoy it!

Still has the L79, complete rebuild with a copy of the Z28 140 cam. Thinking maybe get a sewn buff & some heavy rouge & see what it does to some of the green on the chrome. Definitely staying old school!

Ya know, hindsight is always 20/20, & had I known it would've been nice to have just stuck it in the garage & forgot about it. would have had an all original car to work on nnow! I don't think I had it for a couple hours & that poor old 235 was on the ground! Couldn' t wait for burnouts, black marks, broken u-joints, drineshafts, & pinion gears. Took the 19 year old me a while to figure out how weak those drive lines were! So much for original..old school it is. Just gonna plug away at it.

Man oh man, what a nice way to get your old car back. I would scrub that car up, replace some chrome, get the paint sorted out, mechanicals in good shape, make sure the wiring does not need some attention, and drive that one. Take it apart and spend another couple of years without being able to drive it, that would not be for me, not at this point in life!
