Well, it's been several weeks since I bought this project truck. I think it's in pretty nice shape for what I paid for it. I figured I would concentrate on getting my extra 283 ready to go in the truck first. It already has a GM 350 tranny but it was lacking an engine.

I did gut the interior first. :)

aren't the wood planks supposed to have a dado on the side for the metal ribs to set into only leaving then like 1/16" above the wood ?

Beautiful!

I wish I had your talents.

Had to take a break and put new brake pads on the rear of my wife's MDX. Drove it to the store for the varnish and found out they were down to the metal. Now I have real bad hearing as others on here can attest to, but they were loud!

Got one coat of marine deck varnish on the boards so far.

Has to dry 4 hours before the next coat so not sure if I will get to that tonight. :(

BTW. I did dado out the two outside boards this morning.

I also plan on painting the metal strips with Rustoleum High Gloss Enamel. Need more space to do that though.

So this afternoon I brought the table saw out again and made modifications to the dado in the two outside boards so that all will line up. Of course doing so messed up the finish on those two boards a bit, but I will be sanding all of them down and adding more varnish anyway.

Here is a pic of them before the last cut.

This one shows them all fitting with the metal rails just laying on top. As I mentioned before, I will be painting them with a high gloss black.

I also have to figure out how I am going to get to my gas tank which is under the middle of the boards. :)

I have been plugging along on the pickup for the last few weeks. For one thing I redesigned the fuel cell brackets so if it needed to be removed it would come out from below instead of from the top the way it was. That way you don't have to remove the bed to remove the cell. :)

I added more varnish to the oak bed boards and laid them all in place with the metal strips and the carriage bolts for a test. The bolt are only laying there so when I do the final install they will pull down more level.

I still have to get a door for access to the gas tank too.

Looks pretty good for a "driver" if I do say so myself. :)

I agree Mikko.
You found Corona in Finland? WOW!
Check and see if you can find some Sierra Nevada "Torpedo" also. If so, don't drink a bunch of them in a row or you won't make it to work the next day! Just have one along with your regular beer. The tangy citrus taste really wakes up the taste buds.
