I have a 59 Chevy Stepside with this Trans in it behind the original 235
6Cylinder,I Know it not the original Trans,But like to know what it came out of
I think its a Saginaw? but not sure and if it came out of a car or truck,
Previous owner put this in and the 3-speed linkages were made in a make shift
fashion, pardon the pun!

On one side of the case it Reads
GM 3852645 8 could be a 9 and the 6 could be an 8
2 031

the other side reads
GM 36
3825647

Thanks For any Help!
Allen

Ok Dumb ? Here, what do you mean by fully syncro and how would i tell?
I'll try and get pictures of it to show it if i can!
Thanks again For your Time!
Allen
If it is Full Synchronized you can downshift in to Low Range while moving. A non Synchronized you have to just about stop or make full stop to get the transmission in Low range.

The Early Non Syncro Trans has a 4 bolt side cover.
The Syncronized three speeds have 7 (pretty sure) bolts on the side cover. At the top of the side cover as installed in the vehicle The Saginaw has one bolt in the top at the center, the Muncie has two bolts at the top spread apart.

Muncie:

Saginaw junk 4 speeds have the reverse lever in the side cover.
Sorry Mark,I am Confused! My Trans has two lever's (Or arms) on the side cover
and one of those is for reverse (59 chevy truck with the stock manual 3 on the tree shift lever and stock linkage that were fashioned to work with this trans.

Looks just like the one sledge pictured (Bottom Pic,the saginaw)
Thanks man i do appreciate the help!
Allen

is the four speed have two shift point's or arms coming out of the side cover for 123&4 gears and then another point (3rd)
coming out just for reverse?
