Has anyone here ever used a "Tile" in their car as an anti-theft measure? They supposedly respond to Blu Tooth pings and allow the owner to find lost items. I used to have a wed-based tracker in the '57 but they went out of business and I've been looking around for another means of finding my vehicle if it follows someone home from a motel parking lot at 3AM. I want to be able to call the local PD and tell them where to find the bodies. :) If you've used a "Tile" to locate lost items, how did it work for you? How much range were you able to get out of it? How often does the battery need to be changed?

A link addressing such 'tiles' would have helped me in understanding what you're referring to... but as it is, I had/have NO IDEA what you're referring to?

They are little tags that you can place on your luggage to track a lost bag we have hid them in both our cars the last two years at the Nationals can't say how well they work they are suppose to connect to your phone.I might need to take a grandkid next time to make sure they are connected.

I never used a "Tile" but reading the description, it states the range at only 250ft.

What I have used is an Apple Air Tag in my daily driver. It works by being in proximity of other iPhones -not just your own. The one drawback is that if you are constantly near an Air Tag that isn't yours, your iPhone will report that a device not registered to you seems to be following you. So, a thief that was driving your car away would get this message on his phone too - which may be a good thing if that message caused him to ditch the car and walk away. Also, since the Air Tag is registered to my phone, other iPhone users (ie: my wife and daughter) will get the above mentioned message when we are travelling together. My wife often visits her mother 4 hours away from my home and I was still able to track the vehicle. (Make sure you have consent from your partner to do this, otherwise it's a tad bit creepy thing to do) There is a bit of a lag in reporting the position, as the device only reports the last location that it was in contact with an iPhone. If your thief has an iPhone - you're all set.

The best thing is the cost, you can buy a 4 pack of Air Tags for about $100. Amazon Air Tags

The battery (a common 2032 button cell) reportedly lasts up to a year - mine has been installed for about 6 months and so far is working fine. Hope this helps.

I'm looking forward to the Tile users chiming in.

This is a Tile device. Looks like basically the same thing for Android. The biggest difference is that you have to pay to get alerts when you leave one behind, this is included on IOS.

Because if they want the car they will get it one way or another including with a roll back.I disable mine with a battery cut off but I have no doubt if they want it they will get it.All you can do is to make it harder to get.

Air Tag's work well but will only work with Apple phones and I have an Android phone, so that wouldn't work. I used to have a web based tracker that was good nationwide but they shut down. :-( Now I'm trying to find something that will perform the same service; allow me to tell the police where to find the bodies if the need should ever arise. Like carrying a fire extinguisher in the trunk and praying that it's never needed.

.
Why not just disable so it can't be taken?
seen too many reports of cars being taken on a rollback or on a hook. Just back up, hook up, and go..."gone in sixty seconds". I want to be able to track/find it if necessary. Might be dangerous for me but Guaranteed to be dangerous for the thief!

yeap, a sneaky pete on a wrecker and the driver never has to get out of the truck. Back up to and flip a couple levers and drive off.

If you have an Iphone ya can get a used cheap one and put it on straight talk cheapest minutes plan and hide it in the car, left on charger hidden somewhere and you can use find my phone to locate it.

I used a GPS system when we drove out to Bowling Green, KY from California for the Nationals. Peace of mind, park anywhere set the Geo Fence and no worries. Now, I use an Apple Air Tag but, my recommendation is to heavily insure your car. Again, peace of mind. If something happens to your ride at least you'll get a nice check.

FWIW - This thread reminds me of a conversation I had with my son -- he was asking how easy it would be to hotwire the car and shouldn't I be more concerned about it getting stolen etc. And my answer to him was basically that the last thing a thief wants is to be seen. My 56 is loud and turns heads everywhere it goes, so that would either have to be one bold thief or one knucklehead of a thief to try and run off with it. Statistically speaking, Hyundais and Kias are the most stolen cars, probably in part because they blend in everywhere.

That is not to say ignore common sense .... by all means use an apple air tag or security system or battery cutoff as a tool to gain more peace of mind.
