One of the paints I've selected for one of my projects is a Toyota/Lexus paint called Black Sapphire. It is in fact the darkest blue pearl I found. I tried another dark blue paint called Blue Onyx, but there is no comparison. I prefer the Black Sapphire.
The Black Sapphire is a tricoat paint, and it will cost about $3K vs almost $2K for the other. For this reason, I don't want any screw ups. My painter has done a sample paint on a 2'X2' piece of flat sheet metal.
The tricoat looked fine with the second coat, but the third coat (clear coat) made it look opaque in areas. My painter told me it needed to be buffed out. Does this sound right?
