I'm getting close to blasting and painting my firewall. What is this body sealer?
Image

Will it come off when I blast? Do you just recoat it? Is it lead and will kill me?:scared0005:

thanx

I hope I don't offend by hijacking this photo/post from another post but I am quoting this post to illustrate the water leak problem I am having and the area it is coming from. My 57 2 door post is leaking from this area to inside under the dash. I still have the fender on and, with a water hose, determined the leak is starting in the gap between the fender and windshield metal, basically the area shown in this photo of another member, and leaking through the seam inside the cab. This happens on the passenger side just slightly forward of the antenna. I have verified the antenna mount doesn't leak.

My question is can I seal the seams inside the cab to keep the water out or is there an additional area underneath this section where water will pool and cause more problems? I understand this question may be confusing but any input is appreciated.

Thanks.

Scopiopilot: I have not verified this yet but that is my suspicion. I was attempting to locate a fix without removing the fender as my body parts line up very well and removing a fender, with my very novice skill, will invariably ruin the lines upon reinstall and I am not ready for paint yet. I do fear removal and repair/reseal is unavoidable. Thank you for your input.

As Oldfart said it needs to be seam leaks need to be sealed at the entry point. If you seal inside chances are the water will track along the seam and exit at the next unsealed spot. Also water sitting in the seam is a recipie for rust. Cheers Tommo
That was my thought also: closing a seam from the inside and the water finding another way in or pooling to cause rust. 100%Chevy's photo indicates where I am pretty sure the leak is and no way to access it unless the fender is removed.

If I am understanding this design on the A pillar (100%Chevy photo), there are lips that are supposed to guide the water down the outside of the A pillar which is where the lower fender rust comes from? Does the bumper need to be removed to remove the fender? I do have the 57 Chevy install manual and have been studying it but I can't tell for sure about the bumper.

Thanks for the photos guys. They really give insight as to what I am dealing with. Looks like another learning session....:p3:

Here is a picture of mine in that area.As you can see, there is a hole where the pieces fit together that was covered by sealer.
It is possible to have a leak here.
You can seal it from the inside if you can get to it.
