Hi everyone. What would be the best/easiest size welding rod to use on vertical and overhead welding?? It would be for a 220 stick welder. Many thanx, Carmine.
Not trying to be a smart a$$ but .023 or .030 with my wire feed. I admit its ruined me I have not fired the stick machine up in thes century. Last time I used it was on a 305 block from a wrecked Camaro. It replaced a fresh 454 in a beater truck I bought and sold.

My minds a littke rusty but I think I used to use a lot of 1/8 inch 6019 which was brownish and my pro welder buddies called "farmer rod". I think the 6011 is white in coler and harder to use but perfered by pros. The thickness would be determined by thickness and heat of job. I remember 1/8 was the all round size we had in HS metal shop before the days of wire feed.

110v Limcoln, 220v Century 145, Dayton 225 Amp and 225 Lincoln stick here depend on job. I had to bring the 110 in the house to repair the hinge on wood stove yesterday. The 220v Century 145 is the one I use the least but most versital of migs.
