The only company I know of making lifters in America is Johnson Lifters.

I would look at the Crower or Isky edm lifters. Both are Johnson.

 

I bought a set from Crower a couple of years ago for my build and at the time they were USA made. They feature what they call cool face oiling. They have a microscopic hole in the face to keep fresh oil on the cam.

 

JWW and FI57BA, how are these solid performing so far? Contemplating building solid lifter motor for my 57 Chevy for nostalgic sounds.

 

Your best bet if that is what you want is to find a set of NOS GM solids.

Jww and Mr55/56, have either of you installed your 097 and EDM lifters in your motors? I am considering making the investment in EDM lifters when I build my FI motor in a couple of months. Would like to get some feedback. Thanks.

 

Nope all my 283 parts are still on the shelf, my 56 has a fresh small journal 327 with Trick-Flo Camel Hump Aluminum heads.

 

No, I never carried thru with an 097 cam.
Switched to a 383 BluePrint motor that came with a roller so left it that way.
I DO LIKE the sound of those solids tho!!

 

Do lifters have multiple angles on face, what I mean is do OEMs match lifters to cams. I saw a shop offering lifter regrinds to match cam angles..? Sure Chinese crap will figure out in 10yr.

 

Lifter should have a very small crown on the face. Camshaft lobe should be tapered low in front higher in rear.

This is standard stuff that's been around forever.

 

mr55/56 and JJW, thanks for your responses. Sorry but I forgot all about the question I asked in this thread. I am pressing forward with building my 350 with a Duntov solid lifter cam and, recently, invested in a set of Comp Cams EDM lifters. Also, although I am a big fan of gear drives, I've opted for installing a double roller timing chain to eliminate the gear drive's whine being in competition with or drowning out the solids.
