I put a $59 Pertronix module in my original 57 distributor and it's fine. No problem with fit unless the rear mounts get weak and it looks original because it is.

That said, if it goes out I'll be going back to a good set of points. Not a big deal to me.

I am very surprised that no-one recognizes the first distributor pictured, the so-called Skip White small HEI. It ISN'T a real HEI, and, anyone remember the worst in the industry Pro-Comp messes from China.....well, there they are.

If you want a good ignition system in a small distributor, why not go to the guy that designed, and builds the best ones, Dave Ray, and get it over with.

Keep in mind The Skip white distributor IS NOT a HEI distributor. It is a pointless (maintenance free) distributor with a little more spark power over a point type & that`s about it...
My previous post #10 says they are not a true HEI distributor.. as far as dave ray. We wont go there.....just for FYI his name is not on the patent. Nuff said....

That name triggered a memory, so I did some digging and came up with this from a Buick site. There was also yet another Jeep site that I found a story about him falling off his roof and getting badly injured. After reading all this stuff I started asking myself about.....At what point does all this start to sound implausible..???

Hello, all.

I understand Matthew is the owner of this site, and I hope this is OK to do. Dave gave me the info/authorization to use this account to respond here.

My name is Milton Stott, and I have been a friend of Dave's for over 30 years, used to hang out at his shop here in So. Cal. when he lived here. I did all kinds of errands and some of the packaging, invoicing and installation sheet, shipping for him.

I have been in contact with Dave just recently, and I should be at his shop in Nevada January 20. He has given me his info on how to post on his account here, and let everybody know his condition, and that I will be going to his shop to get the 7 distributors he has had done for months out to those that have them coming.

I can tell you he just is not happy about those 7 distribuors still being in the shop. I will tell you the person more pissed off about this than all others combined is Dave himself. Even when he is healthy, he can get fully ballistic irritated when things don't go right for his customers. When it is his fault, WHICH IS NOT OFTEN, he just doesn't ever forgive himself.

So far, as it happened, he was injured moving his sister in February, broke two ribs clean off his spine and dislocated his shoulder, almost got impaled on a curtain rod.

He was recovered from that, and had the 7 distributors done, and ready to go. All he had to do was invoice, install sheet, package and ship.

He went to Summit Racing in Sparks, Nv., for parts the next day, and on the way back, was involved in stopping a robbery at a convenience store. He got shot twice, left hip and abdomen. He spent two months in the hospital on that one.

The day after he was out of the hospital, he was at his house, getting ready to go to the shop, AND SHIP THE 7 DISTRIBUTORS OUT, when he collapsed in his driveway, out cold. So, back to then hospital, full respiratory failure, severe lung infection, traced to something he contracted in the two months he spent in the hospital with the gunshot wounds recovery. This gave him no contact with the outside world infrequently, more severely the last few months. Doctors stopped his e/mails and phone, and finally, his internet workings, they just didn't help him get any better. He was put on induced coma at one point, had two operations, and got better. He was pronounced dead twice, and came back, had 2 operations on his lungs.

He was just a couple of days away from getting sprung, when another disaster hit him, while still in the hospital.

He got bit by a black widow spider. They know it was that, because the spider was found dead, under his bed. He is still going back and forth to rehab, he has taught himself how to walk all over again, and now is getting back to being able to speak right again. He is as sharp mentally, as he ever was, but still extremely physically weak. He has lost just over 100 pounds. It hasn't been easy for him, but I know, he is one tough customer, and all these health and injury problems just didn't have a chance taking him out.

As I said, I should be at his shop by January 20, and will ship the completed distributors out when I get the shop office up and running again, shouldn't be a day or so after I get there.

If you have a distributor at Dave's, and it has been there for months, it will get shipped out, by me. Please don't reply to his e/mail, or this posting until the end of January if you don't receive your dist back, it will take that long to get everything back to the usual Dave's craziness and lunacy.

If you have questions, PLEASE hold them until the end of January, and send them via his shop e.mail, info@davessmallbodyheis.com One of us will answer you only after the end of January.

I understand there are NO distributors at Dave's that are NOT done, all are completed and in line to be shipped. I will know more when I get up there.

I am the head purchaser of on the shelf and prescription drugs for a very large chain of drug and notions stores on the west coast, and have taken a leave to get this done for Dave. I am also a car person, and have a number of older cars in my collection, with a few Buicks as well, so I am not unfamiliar with what Dave does, I use over 40 of his conversions in my car collection, and have 4 waiting for him when he gets full on up and running again. I plan on being at Dave's for a full month to help out.

It took me a few months getting info on Dave's condition, and I only got that because of the business I am in, makes it a small bit easier to speak with doctors, not a bunch easier, but a little. I had to rack down where he was first, then contact his doctors. Not being a relative, if I wasn't in "the medical business", I'd have still been in the dark about Dave's conditions.

I do know there are a lot of phone messages and e/mails to read and follow up on already. I'll try to get them all done after I ship the backlog out.

As I said, I hope this is allowed, Dave said it should be OK in my posting this here. When all this stuff is over, I will start an account here, and post here. This will be my ONLY, and last post on Dave's account here.

Regards,

For Dave Ray.

Just hilarious. I'd buy the chicom Skip White before dealing with that GUY.

If you liked that stuff, you'll also be pleased to know that he's a "retired special forces person" super hero. Wonder what his costume looks like?
I have no idea if these stories are true or not, but man that's a lot of stuff to happen to one guy who's having problems with sore customers.

This is about the robbery/shooting from another site.

I've been rather busy with doctors and hospitals of late.

A couple of months ago, I got shot by a robber while he was trying to rob a convenience store, once in the left hip, once in the gut, .22 caliber, bullet one is still deeply imbedded in the hip bone. Of course, this 220 lb. retired Special Forces person doesn't like being shot, so, I disarmed the creep, then proceeded to beat almost all the living daylights out of him. I held the guy for the cops until they got there, and only after I stood up, did the paramedics find the gut shoot blod and wound.

More.

OH, it got worse, a lot worse. I was recovering nicely from the bullets, when I contracted double pneumonia and a lung infection, and had to go back into the hospital.

So, it wasn't looking good in fighting the infection, docs said if I had not come in when I did, I more than likely wouldn't be here now. As it got a bit worse in the hospital, they put me into a medically induced coma, so I was not fighting the treatments. I stayed that way for a week, they woke me up Saturday.

A word about medically induced comas, YOU REALLY DON'T WANT TO EVER BE IN ONE. Nor do you want a tube down your throat and into your lung, it ain't any fun at all.

At least, I had my laptop.

As far as the creep, I saw him from the corner of the door, walked to within 3 feet of him, and I acted surprised to see a robbery was going on. I did the whole act, put my hands up, looked scared. Then, he told me to move away from him, which meant I had to cross over in front of him, I said "OK, just don't shoot me".

As I passed in front of him, I made a grab for the gun, and he got off the two shots. I got the gun away from him, secured it, then proceeded to have an attitude adjustment talk with the creep. The clerk called the police and EMS, the 3 other people came and stood at the door, so nobody else could enter, and I took the robber apart, literally.

Funny, when the police got there, they asked what happened to the robber, and, the clerk and the three others all said the same thing, at the same time, I was really impressed. "HE FELL DOWN!". priceless.

Really, some would buy a piece of junk over the best HEI conversion on the market, and you don't even know Dave. I do, I have a few of his conversions, all work well past expectations and performance.

You guys missed the part where the next door neighbor slipped while helping Dave on that roof, and Dave stopped him from falling. Then, some years ago, he walked into a robbery at a convenience store as he was coming back from Summit in Reno, got shot once, but subdued the guy robbing the store.

Really hilarious, isn't it.

I doubt any of really you know the man, but you all are sure fast to ridicule him for stuff you know NOTHING about.

I'll stick with him for my info and ignition system work, he has NEVER let me down, nor given me a single word of untruth. That is a lot more than I can say about a lot of you here, and a lot of other so called experts that really aren't in the ignition system industry.

And the guy from Australia, you "won't go there", why, are you so adverse about what you say just might be proven totally untrue? Let it out, and let the man defend himself against what you have to say. He'd do the same for you, but then, he doesn't do what you did. He has a lot more honesty, and certainly one heck of a lot more class than to say "I won't go there".

He tells it exactly like it is, and doesn't lie, nor pull punches, unlike a lot of others that have very little, to no integrity, and/or honesty. He also helps a lot of board members from a lot of other boards, and a few from this one, fix their distributors and ignition systems after other board members get done with all the "advice" that doesn't work, mostly for free. How many here to that, not many at all, I figure. He always tells those he helps to not tell anyone on those boards, because he doesn't like to see those he helps get flamed for having him help them. Pretty rotten of him, isn't it, most of you would totally agree, I am sure.

People that pull that sort of false defamation crud really p**s me off.

Back to the Skip WHite Dist....
Y'all are getting me worried, I had one on a old Plymouth I purchased.. I drove that car all over and never had a problem..I put one in my Studebaker truck with a chevy 350 and so far it has held up .. Hope it lasts.

Seeing as you singled me out, I will put you straight..You want me to GO THERE!! Here it is..
He has been banned from so many sights defaming any & all other ignition systems including this forum.. If his are so F(*&*^*N great then, Why will all the Performance cars, Nascar, race, drag etc NOT use his Crap? .. I will tell you.. It is a crap performance distributor..You say i do not know him, your right not personally face to face anyway. I had some of his pieces of crap years ago and i did better on the 1/4 with a stock points distributor than i did with any 1 of his conversions. (i had 4).. I have said nothing on here i have not said to him on emails or the phone..So you may ask "Would i say any of this to his face"? The answer is a resounding YES..I have also had major debates on a thread with him..Does he Know ignition systems? I take noting from him in that regard, HE DOES KNOW A (LETS SAY) FAIR AMOUNT OF EXCEPTIONAL KNOWLEDGE. I have challenged and conversed with him over the years & was told I had fitter issues.. FFS with 4 distributors?? Crap. When i went to get them tested & then to be re-curved for what i needed,(which is what i ordered & did not get) it could not be done. Reason they broke down and faulted at anything after 5000 rpm, so i tossed them.. Never again will i use them & i will advise not to also..
As far as the invention of the small HEI distributor being HIS.. Like i said to HIM on this forum YOUR Name IS NOT ON THE PATENT>>>>>PERIOD, Nor is it mentioned in any of the testing or credits, His name is NOT senomonis with the invention of this system Period... His response time & turn around time for many people, including myself, whom have given him cold hard readies are left hanging for months on end & only get addressed when he gets notified of negative feedback from the likes of you to get his act together and blame every other system for the failure of delivery, IE;- post office must have misplaced it, UPS have not delivered etc. Took 8 months for one i had done to get it to me.. So CRAP tio the statement on "MORE HONESTY & read Integrity".. So before you start getting "Pissed off" with people whom say "wont go there". Be aware we have our reasons & get pissed off ourselves at the blatant lies & false hoods represented by him..So next time you attack another individual for "Wont go there" GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT & be sure of them...........Do not take me a fool & tell me he has more "class or integrity" than anyone else He has also defamed me so you are right he would do the same except his facts are FICTION>>>. Your personal attack on me was not warranted.. I will most likely get banned for this reply So thanks for that........ So the next time i say "Wont go there" do not provoke a response you do not want to hear & set a personal attack on me because i WILL defend my words, I did NOT want to go there as i did NOT want to lower myself to do a Flame out. I wanted to remain civil toward him. So hows that for my Honesty & Class? See any untruths there? See any Class he has over & above anyone else?? (You claim I`m Not & do not) ? So reply, Have Facts you can prove if you have the nads..Nuff said..

Don`t fret, I have run them for years in many different applications. Only ever had one fail, this was due to my own error trying to get things working in the dark..

Over 15 years ago, I read about modding a GM points distributor (57-73) to mopar electronic. I removed the points reamed out a mopar V8 reluctor, epoxied it over the GM distributor shaft lining up with the bumps the points used. Mounted the mopar pu assembly, adjusted it close, but not hitting the reluctor. I mounted a 4 pin HEI module under the distributor and use an HEI coil. It has been there ever since. Has not missed a beat.

Welp... your post caused me to do some research on the subject. From what I can find, MSD stuff is still made in the USA, except their Master-Blaster Coil.

In this case the question is about the Skip White distributor. I still contend it's best to go with MSD distributors which are made in the USA.

FWIW... I've been running my MSD stuff for about 15 years ... and the only thing I've done was change the cap because it was so old I was kinda worried about it :flag6:
I recently purchased a box, cap, wires and coil from MSD for my Jeep, and they were all marked, with the exception of the wire set, "MADE IN CHINA"
I do believe you are right though, some parts made in USA, some made in USA using China made parts, and some made in China.
Even so, I stand by my MSD parts!
