Packard 56 & 59 Terminals | Suppliers?

Guys, outside of AAW, is there a good source for quality Packard fittings that are used in the dash harness and elsewhere? Single wire and double wire fittings and the connectors (plugs) commonly used? I would like to create a stock of these fittings knowing that in the beginning, I'll "burn" through a few as I learn to make a good crimp. And I'm still trying to decide if I can a live with a cheaper multi-function crimper like this --------

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0045CUMLQ/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_16?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Any suggestions will be appreciated. And if you think that I'll be unhappy with the crimper, please don't hesitate to say exactly that. In the end, if I can save $80 bucks compared to the AAW crimpers, then great. Otherwise, as much money as I waste (shamefully so), then I'll buck-up for the AAW.

David (AKA Pops), mentioned one source of Packard fitting some time ago, but I would like to add to the source list. Someone that specializes in automotive terminals and connectors that have a supply of everything I would need.

Thanks as ALWAYS! Ken

I just found this site -- has anyone used them? Good product and service?

And I'm confused about the Packard fitting that accepts a double wire. Is that also a Packard 56 fitting or called something else? I need double wire terminals in 14 and 12 gauge.

I don't know where to get the double-wire connector besides the AAW harnesses that come with them. I'm sure someone sells them but I also don't know what they are called.

My only comment on the ratcheting style crimper is that they struggle with some of the thicker Packard 56 connectors. I have a pair and they won't work at all on the larger connectors for 12 gauge. Like the die is a little too small. I use them for everything from 14 gauge and down.

Using the AAW crimpers, you have no problem with the 12G and double wire crimps?

No problem with them, but that is pretty much all they do. Since you said $150, I'm assuming you are looking at the buying both since they sell the set for $150. That will cover all Packard 56. They also call the connectors F-type on their web site.

The AAW classic upgrade wiring kit I bought came with extra fittings so you can practice and if you screw one up(I did). I bought the AAW crimpers and sold them to another member when I was done with them.

I'm not using an AAW kit, doing my own thing, right or wrong. And like you, the thought of buying the AAW crimper set and sell when finished crossed my mind, but more than likely I would choose to keep them. Insurance. You never know when repairs or changes may be needed.

I bought this kit off E-Bay which had an assortment of Packard 56 terminals and connectors to go with the AAW harness I'm putting in my '55. http://www.ebay.com/itm/380878533153?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I have the S&G 18960 ratcheting crimper set that I use. It works great and has interchangeable jaws for various uses. https://www.amazon.com/Tool-Aid-18960-Ratcheting-Terminal/dp/B006O1Y1FY

I also have a "no name" inexpensive crimper which was a Nissan special tool which also does excellent crimps on the terminals.

That's exactly what I've been looking for. Have you assembled any terminal/connectors yet? Do the terminals fit securely in the connectors without pulling out? Decent quality?

And I actually have that crimper in my Amazon basket - saved for consideration. The price is reasonable. Have you attempted any dual wire crimps? As noted by Toby above and others in the past, that's where crimpers of this type fail. Regardless, its of interest.

Thank you for this info!

And guys, what the heck is a Packard 59 terminal and do I care? Needed?

I've been Google'g "double-wire Packard terminals" and cannot fine anything. I may have to contact AAW, but would love to have a cheaper source. And unless I'm doing something wrong, I don't see a double wire terminal on the AAW site. Their search functionality is poor. I'm guessing they sell them as a stand alone (outside of a kit)?

Let me know if anyone knows another source, someone other than AAW.

After considerable debate (internally), Im going to buy the AAW crimpers from Summit. Summit will ship for free. Summit also sells Packard terminals and connectors, so I'll include that in my order.

Thanks to all that provided suggestions.
