The original blue dots were made by cutting glass marbles in half and gluing them in the center of the tail light lense... the tail lights of the 1920 and 1930 cars were very small and were 6 volt systems... The blue dots helped to make the car easier to see in the dark... Later, Dave
The human eye can't properly focus on red and blue at the same time, maybe the confusion makes the eyes and brain pay more attention to what it's trying to see?

Personally I think the blue dots look odd and I don't get what the big deal is about them, but to each is own. It would suck if everyone's cars all looked the same so I'm happy for those who like them. Maybe since I don't like them, I should put them on the rear of my car since I never follow myself!

I have had blue dots on my 57 since 1977. My dad was the one who pointed them out at the hershey aaca fall meet that year. I was 16, thought they were cool looking. Still think they are cool. My dad was a funeral director, a lot of the police moonlighted for him, drove the limo etc. A couple of them told me the reason the blue dots were illegal in Pennsylvania was because there was law that specified all lights at the back of the car had to be red but when the imports came on the scene with yellow turn signals, the law had to be dropped. In all of the years I have had blue dots, I have never been pulled over for having them.
