If for no other reason it was the first jet aircraft to circle the world nonstop. This was back in 1957. The mission was intended to demonstrate that the United States had the ability to drop a hydrogen bomb anywhere in the world. The newest B-52 was built in 1962 and still the backbone of the Air Force.
