For me it is Boeing's B-52.
If for no other reason it was the first jet aircraft to circle the world nonstop. This was back in 1957. The mission was intended to demonstrate that the United States had the ability to drop a hydrogen bomb anywhere in the world. The newest B-52 was built in 1962 and still the backbone of the Air Force.

I always thought the B-58 Hustler was the coolest looking plane I ever saw:

with counter-rotating propellers - airspeed of at least 360 mph
at altitude, and a climb to 20,000 ft within six minutes armament
four .50 in machine guns with 500 rpg, and a 20 mm Hispano autocannon with 150 rounds.

My pick is the SBD Dauntless Dive Bomber, why for its historical impact of avenging Pearl harbor at Midway, Sinking 4 Japanese carriers that attacked Pearl harbor in one day.
