went for a ride yesterday about 20 miles, 1/2 hr or so and on my way home the engine quit ,no spark but after 20 min. or so it started .i guess my question is if it would have anything to do with the ballast resistor on the firewall.its new but i don`t know what make or model it came from only that it was new,it is different from the original one. other than that i don`t know what to look for.:confused:

Sounds to me like your coil is going away not the resistor. The coil gets hot and has an open cools off and fixes itself. Usually when a resistor fails it's done for, I'd check the coil...Dennis:)

i didn`t think it was that althought the coil was very hot .i thought the coil would make it mis and sputter.thanks that does make sense about the resistor
 
If it was the ballast resister, wouldn't it want to start, then die when you let off of the start position on the switch? The ballast resister is bypassed while cranking. You could also try putting a jumper around the resister if it does it again, then you would know it is, or isn't, the resister. I would guess it is not the resister.

wrong ohm`s

i guess i put the wrong resistor in it was .8 ohm , the right one for the car is 1.2ohm so i ordered a new one. thanks for the help and on the road again:)

typed in wrong ohm`s its 1.82 ohm and it`s good to go .the only thing is that the new one smoked for about 30sec freeked me out . i guess there was oil or something on it , pulled it back out and looked at it ,it just looked used like warmed up .:tu went for a long ride after with no problems:tu
