If you're going to run blue dots, go with the glass version. The plastic ones do not glow blue very well and have been known to melt.

You guys may or may not know that blue dots were used during the war to trick enemy aircraft into believing the purple glow was something other than a car's taillights. Some car manufacturer's during that time did issue them either as a dealer option or you could buy them over the counter. Once the war ended so was the blue dot. But the teenagers thought they were pretty cool and started using them on their cars which then prompted law enforcement to clamp down.

I agree with others that you can pretty much get away with it so long as you don't run into some cadet looking to make his first ticket. Alot of officers have hot rods of their own and will cut you some slack especially with a classic car or truck. Or pack stock lenses with you to change back if needed.

You do need to line the bulb up with the dot to get the full effect.

Never even thought about the "illegality" of blue dot lenses. :D

I have 'em in my 56.

They're BRIGHT, they just have a purple glow, especially when the brake lights are on.

I think law enforcement would have bigger issues to worry about. :D

Me too, but if their boss says: "you gotta write 100 tickets today..."

Here in Mich I called the state police and asked them. The officer said they are illegal but he wouldn't come right out and say that they don't enforce it. All he would say is your not supposed to run them. I think I'll chance it and take a roll of duct tape to cover the dots if needed.

Do you cruise woodward ?

Just talked to a guy that has been crusing in his rat rod for years. He said many of his buddies also have blue dots (along with him) and hes said they ahve never been stopped for the blue dots. He also said he heard that legistration has been changed to allow them.

Well, I did not know, and appreciate you posting up this info :tu:tu:tu

I've been driving my 55 every chance I can for the past 6 years - to work, shows, cruises, never had a problem. Admit though I'm considering LEDs for better visibility.
Have you seen the 57 tail light lense with the 59 Caddy style bullet in it. Looks all right for a custom job.

Just went with LEDs that Bryant built for me and also added a 3rd brake light (idea from Dave) to my 55 and it greatly improved my lights. :tu

I love them. My Uncle had them on his car when I was a kid and I still remember how cool they looked at night.

My buddy bought me a pair for my '55. Now if I can just get get one of my cars to the stage where I can use them. :)
