....but I don't want to start it up until I KNOW it's in PARK - First I want it on the ground (right now I have it up on jack stands with the front wheels/drums removed) and then I could manually put it in PARK before starting it. Hoping to have the parts to finish the brakes at the same time as getting the trans. linkage parts, though.

Today I got all my transmission linkage parts to get the transmission hooked up, I hope! Also picked up my front drums from NAPA, had them turned for $19. Now I have to finish the front brakes, hook up the transmission, and check the water pump...I'm getting there!

Got the lower hose installed and now need to put coolant in. It's still pretty hot here in Florida, so what should I use? Is 1/2 and 1/2 okay? Or should I use all coolant?

Thanks, John... I think that's great advice. If I don't flush the radiator now I'll always be kicking myself for not doing it and using the "it's full" excuse for not doing it in the future. Just seems like the right time for the job.

Keep going Mike, next you might as well give the engine a going over, and the trans as well. Shoot as long as i`m doing that might as well clean and paint the frame, oh well lets go ahead and pull the body and paint the whole frame........ Now you see how i got to where i`m at. haha

Terry,
Its amazing how fast a project can snowball into a major restoration project. I know that most of us are not wired to look at something and say, "Oh, that is good enough." ;) There is no way I can leave well enough alone.

Eldon that is exactly how i ended up where i`m at now. I kept looking at cars at the shows and i`d say, if i don`t go ahead and fix this i won`t be happy. If i don`t fix that i`ll regret it later, and the rest is in my car pic site, so to say.

Quit??? Perish the thought!!!

My wife looked at a 2005 Nissan 350Z last night and it was a great deal, but it was blue, and she hates blue cars. She was tempted to buy it, but I rememded her of the color and that it would not be EXACTLY what she wanted. We left the dealership without the car. I am the same way. If it is not what I want, then I will always look at it thinking, "This is not what I want."

That is why I want to start with a stripped rustbucket. I want to start from the ground and build it EXACTLY the way I want. If I started with one that was already done, no matter how nice it was, there would be something I would not like about it. If I am going to put the time and money into something, it better be "my way."

I like that idea, Eldon. I started with this 57 with what I wanted -- a 57 4dr hardtop with a color scheme that screams at me -- turquois and india ivory does that for me! I love what I have to start with and when it's a driver, I'll love it even more. Starting with a rustbucket would be great, too. I've said it before, if I could find the right 55 project car, something that needs a motor and trans, and something I could put a cheap flat black paint job on and make the interior okay, then I'd be happy!
