Unfortunately, a young female driver hit it. The insurance company paid-off >$50K for it, to the Pontiac owner, a friend of ours who's helping with our 1957 Nomad project.

Krunk, I love your car. I had a 57 Super Chief 4 door. I totaled it in 1964 on a rain slick road. The rear end is worth more today than I paid for the car ($795) in 1963 when I was 17.

I am confused by the title of this post.... 57 pontiac /05 impala chassis running gear....
if you are looking to use the 05 impala as a donor for the pontiac I would keep looking.
05 impala 110 inch wheel base, pontiac 122 inch
05 front track 62 inches -vs- pontiac 59, and impala rear track 61 inches -vs- pontiac 59--- also the impala uses deep positive offset wheels , when you go to put proper negative offset wheels on, it will really cause problems
05 impala is front wheel drive.

I modernized the chassis on one of my pontiacs by using the front stub off of a 78 to 88 montecarlo (G body platform , and buick, olds, and pontiac of the same vintage will work) which got me the proper track width , and modern stering/ brakes , and the ability to use a small block chevy , or later side mount pontiac motor.

My '57 Pontiac Star Chief was also modified many years ago in the US with a '78 Monte Carlo front end, gaining all of the above features you mention. Perhaps it was a widely known mod before the introduction of upgraded chassis' such as Roadster Shop, Morrison etc?

I wondered how-long before someone would bring up something like mr55/56's comment, or jonzcustomshop. When he (the Chieftan/Impala owner) drove it over to our house to do some welding for us, that's what he told me. I wondered about the specifics, but I was more-interested on accomplishing the work we had planned to do than in dissecting the transformation of an '05 Impala, and getting it to fit under a '57 Chieftan.

Next time I see him, I'll ask him. I believe that he was talking about the running gear, and the sub-assemblies possibly being used, but I didn't want to interfere with his time as he volunteered to help us, at no cost. I hope that you can see my point in all of this. He has helped us multiple times with the project, and has never charged us a dime. I'd hate to make him not continue to assist us, because of my repeated questioning him about the car.

Nothing to do with an Impala underneath a 1957 Pontiac, but I do have more intimate knowledge about this. It's about the original car that was built. The challenge is, 'what is it?' And for bonus points 'where was it first made?' Answer without googling.
