Have had many 55 chevy currently picked up a nice 55 bel air that has a 383 stroker motor run great problem I'm having is with the 700R4 never had one in any of my 55, in the past always ran a 350 turbo built could always take off with shifter in low gear and hold the gear until I wanted it to shift it into 2nd.The problem with this 700R4 it will not hold low gear or 2nd shifts out on its own at low rpms no matter how I adjust the tv cable is this normal for these transmission can't even get motor to it power curve? Not a trans guy is there a kit to cure this? running a ford 411 gear Thanks in advance :)

Number 1 : The TV cable is NOT adjusted for shift points. It is SET to get the correct pressure at all RPM's to keep from burning the clutches. With the correct throttle adapter, it is set to be fully open at WOT. This allows pressure to start rising as soon as the throttle starts opening.
Are you sure the transmission is going into first or second. Many times there isn't enough motion of the shift lever to get to first gear.

The weights & springs that the governor is equipped with control the shift points trying to change the shift timing with the TV cable as Don stated is a really good way to burn the clutch plates up.Which ever make carburetor you have there likely is a correction lever that allows the line pressure to be correct through out throttle opening range.I suggest reading up on proper adjustment procedures on the TV cable. You can try this governor it should raise the shift points or you can buy a B&M kit for the governor with a assortment of weights & springs to change shift points but you likely will have to change weights, springs or both a few times to get shift points where you desire.

Read this..... worked for me. If you have their equipment you can adjust shift timing by moving the cam on their cable attachment. It changes the geometry but maintains pressures. Use a pressure gauge to confirm good pressures when you set it up.

If your transmission is upshifting to the next gear when you have it in manual first or second possibly it may be something done to the valve body. I'm pretty sure it should not pressure shift out of the manual gear you selected.Again the governor is really more responsible for shift points than TV adjustment when in Drive or Overdrive range.Having said that if a shift kit & different accumalator has been installed sometimes you will have to make a slight adjustment usually to soften a harsh 1-2 shift. Then a pressure gauge should be used to verify line pressures are good in all gears.Clutch plate failure can occur quickly especially in the 3-4 clutch pack with low pressure.
