This should be an interesting post & make the younger crowd say "Darn" under their breath.:sign0020:
In 1965 I was paying $10.a week for room & board. The job I had paid about $40.a week.
I bought an aqua & ivory 55 Chevy convertible for $100.The guy I bought it from let me pay it off at $25. a week.On the 4th week I drove it home.
It had a 6 cylinder & 3 on the tree.Back then 55s,6s & 7s were everywhere. I kept it for a while & eventually sold it for $175. & was so happy w/myself for the "big" profit I made.If I only knew.

The picture is NOT the car I had.It was close to whats pictured.

The first tri five I drove was a 57 black 2 dr post with a 6 banger that my dad bought with the engine head in the trunk. We rebuilt the engine and I drove it till my dad wrecked it. Then I bought a 56 chevy 2dr post about 1966. I paid 35.00 for it. I drove it home but the rings were so bad in it that there was a quart of oil on top of the intake when i got home. (blowby) It was light blue over medium blue. A "friend" sold me a 56 engine that was supposed to be in good shape. It wasn't. I ended up rebuilding an engine from the pair and drove it through hight school. I added a floor shift and tootsie roll head rests (that was a big thing then). I kept it going by buying junk cars and stripping them of parts and storing them in my dads garage. For a while I didn;t have a starter on it, I set the timing to TDC and tried to park on a slight incline. I could usually push it, hop in and pop the clutch to start it.
I later bought a nomad for 1,000 dollars and two convertibles for 500 each.

In 1963 I bought a 1956 Chevrolet, 150 two door post 265 2bbl, three on the tree transmission and a standard (no push buttons) AM radio... $600.00 + tax & license... Later, Dave

my first tri five? :stupido2: 2 yrs ago and paid $9100. looks like the one in my avatar. :confused0006: wait, it is the one in my avatar. :winking0070:

I bought my first 57 in 1965 at the age of 12 for $50.00.Rode my bike to get it and drove it home.Mom took the keys because I was too young to drive.
Paid for it with money from selling "Grit" newspapers, bottle deposits and mowing grass.
By 68,I had 5 57's,one driver and 4 parts cars.In 69,I bought a red 2door hardtop,rolled and pleated interior,283/3-speed on the floor.It cost $500.00.
That money came from working at the local car-wash @.75 cents an hour plus tips.(most of the money was from the tips).
I remember paying as little as $20.00 for non-running parts 57's.
Mike.:)

My first one in 67' was a bondo bucket, with a broken rear spring. I had to carve the bondo away from a head light door, just to replace a sealed beam. "LoL" I paid $125 for it. And after putting in the spring and a new Hurst shifter, I drove it less than a year, when a drunk driver rear ended it. Insurance paid the purchace price, and I kept the car.
My second one I paid eighty bucks for it, and it was in need of a clutch. And it had a caved in drivers door, and was nearly rust free. I swaped the good door off my first car, and put in a new clutch. This one I drove for a year and a half. All the while I worked for a buck ten and hour, at the Big Boy restaurant. Stupidly I got rid of it and bought a 62' Catalina. Living in an apartment, don't let you have to many cars. The one I have presantly was a gift, from the wife's aunt for cleaning out her garage. It hadn't been driven in eight years, and she was the second owner.

:) I bought my first 1956 in December of 1956, it was a 'demo' from the local Chevy dealership that the owners wife had drove for about 7 months, had 2700 miles on it.

It was a two-door BelAire hardtop with all the goodies including A/c, v-8 with the power-pak 4bbl carb. And powerglide.

Paid $2300.00 out the door.

Drove the bujeebers out of it, it was fast and the girls really liked it.

Don's (the hamsman) 56 was a new car (demo) when he bought it for $2,300... That makes me at $600.00 the worst car buyer here:) I always have said, "Guys like me are good for the economy because I buy high and sell low":) Later, Dave

I didn't pay anything for mine:D

My 57 was my graduation gift from HS, it was actually the incentive to get me to finish school, if I didn't graduate I didn't get the car. I got it in 1976 and drove it to Spokane from Auburn CA. that was only a 1000 mile first drive:D

Bought my first 55 in 59. Bought it from the local Chevy dlr. AIRC, I paid about $700.00. I remember the Cat credit union payment was $23.00/mo.
265/3 speed. The 1 U see in my avatar.

I was a junior in high school in 67, I paid 500.00 for a four door sedan with a 283 four barrel and powerglide, it had new paint, new interior and a new engine rebuild. I drove it hard, I still have pictures of it. It was burgundy.

1st Car...48 Chevy

:sign0020: In 1956,

Yep, $150.00 for 48 Chevy Fleetline...yeow, I had wheels, could date.
My 1st tri-5 was in 1959, gave a 53 Flathead Ford and about $950.00

My first trifive is the 57 below I bought it in 2007. I paid 10K for it from my uncle who had it from 1976 and he got it from my dad (they did some kind of barter deal) who bought it in 1971 for 100 bucks!

I bought my 56 in May of 2009 and paid 3K for it and it had no motor or tranny and no interior.

55's

I bought my first 55 (2 door sedan) in 1966 as a Junior in Highschool for $500. It was not much to look at but it was rust free and had a 283 w/muncie 4-speed. Right out of boot camp in 1968 I traded a 62 Buick for the prettiest black on black 55 (2 door sedan) in the world. Had a 327 vette engine and could yank the front wheels off the ground in 1st. Had to sell it while I was in Viet Nam in 69 because my brother (who was supposed to be watching it for me while I was in Nam) was actually out on Woodward Ave. in Detroit racing the car on Friday nights. Let it go for $1,500 which was pretty big bucks back then. Still miss that car...:sad0049: JIM. :auto12:
