What is the best sealer for the 4 center Intake bolts on a small block 350?
I put high temp thread sealer on them (that white stuff in a little tube) and after about 1/2 a year I get a little oil on one then two then all 4. Mabe I use to little sealer? Thanks Todd

I've used Permatex #2 before and no problems,it stays pliable and won't harden up. Another Hi-temp thread sealant by Permatex has p/n 59214. Any auto parts should have them in stock. Good luck, hope this helps. Bob:bowtier:

I thoroughly clean the threads in the heads and bolts well with brake clean, and use ultra black permatex on the entire bolt threads when installing it will usually fill the intake hole up as the bolt is inserted and threaded in, clean up squeeze out with paper towels and a little elbow grease.

X 2 works great.

actually that is not the one to use . it is oil soluble. the correct one is ultra black. it is not oil soluble and made for oil containment areas of the engine. the red is for exhaust, egr. and such.

I did see this on the red at least:resists auto and shop fluids

However, I do agree that the black would have been a better choice in this case....I need to get myself educated on these things....."Backs in my day" we didn't have RTV....Permatex #2 was my gasket sealer of choice for almost everything.

Dang it hotroddg.....Where were you when I posted this thread on my intake manifold installation? :) See link:http://www.trifive.com/forums/showthread.php?t=142985
I've heard that 'oil soluble' description before, but all I can say is that I've had many seepage and leak problems with the black, and especially with the blue. Once I found the red (it turns sorta orange over time) I've never had a single leak. I'm a believer in it and use it for most everything, and haven't gone back to anything else.

It depends on weather it is ultra black or standard black silicone, only the ultra is not oil soluble.
