I know this question has been asked and beat on more than a dead horse but I am wanting to go with long tube headers on my '57 with a 4 speed, stock clutch linkage AND stock rear side bellhousing mounts. NOT wanting to cut off frame ears and install rear trans mount. Trick is I have the car lowered to 4 5/8" at bottom of front k member. So....I can not have a low hanging header nor do I want to go with block huggers or shorties. Research shows the Heddman Elite 1 5/8" tube part# HED- 68128 are the best choice?? I know some of you trifive members are running these, can you post a picture of the clearance at the front of the frame rail (where it flattens out at the front.)Thanks for any help, you guys are awesome! :congrats: Jay

The Hedman 68128 are an excellent long tube header but they WILL hit the road at times if your car is lowered, No doubt about it.

Thanks

Handyman, zbad,
Thanks for the help. I will do some measuring. Still wanting to go long tube but after reading in the search threads the 3!4 header may be better for lowered cars. I'd hate to spend the money and smash the bottoms of the tubes and possibly have a performance restriction! Thanks, J

Mines a '57 with 2" dropped springs, I wanted full length as well. I bought the Hedmans and well you can see how little room there was. So I returned them and bough 3/4 length Hedmans and couldn't be happier. I have all the stock mounts too. Everything fit great, had to adjust the Z bar over a bit toward the frame side. The headers will drop right down from top even with spark plugs still mounted :)

Part number?

volksnut,
Do you have the part number on the Hedman 3/4 length headers?
Sounds like you had good results and that's a great option. :shakehands: Jay

I have Hooker on mine, and they fit perfectly. Dont know what part number they are.
