Built a full chrome undercarriaged" T" Bucket in 67 kept it 30 years, i used the Motorcycle wheels on the front......no braking apparatus at all in front. All i had was rear brakes 3/16" line. on my 57 chevy rearend. I PUT A COMPRESSION fitting in and pieced together a 3 piece line to the flex-line T.on the tube/ I run this ole gal full tilt and around town. Never any brake troubles .BUT!! I was warned not to use "compression" fittings it was not acceptable by anyone in repair business,THIS was not a good way to do brake connections- Now push -father time up to 2017. On You Tube is a fellow replacing rolled steel line..pulling off a piece,- cutting -it. Placeing compression rings a fittings, on this line,( Newer automobile). Did i miss something after all the years? i built these classics and hotrods?please say i can do this "new type" brakeline.
If its the way to go?I have always thought . if me building cars from the ground up would stop midstream in my life ,It would be for disliking doing the brakes. Flaring tools are now expensive ,and all i have is 3 of the manual type.Anything you have on this- please reply and thanks for taking the time to read this

Compression fittings are still not to be used for brakes.

You can use a manually operated flaring tool on brake lines. I use a Ridgid 345-DL. It's a quality piece and costs a good bit less than $100.

Also, find some nickel/copper brake line. It flares and bends much easier than other choices, and it's DOT approved for brakes. It is starting to be sold at auto supplies now.

Brakes are not something you want to cut corners on. It's your life and the lives of others around you.

Compression fittings are not rated for the pressure of brake lines. It may work fine until the one time you stomp the brakes and the tubes fly out of the compression fitting. There's a reason they use DOUBLE flares instead of a single flare on brake lines. Be safe and use all brake rated parts.
