I've been doing so for more than 50 yrs, but had no 'data' (other than gut feeling) that it was better for the engine to get oil FASTER.. Today I came across a video that proves that it's better... :)

Actually I had trouble believing that anyone would argue with this.. but apparently some did! :)

PS. I do have a couple of cars that the oil filter is installed upside down from the top of the engine, whic makes pre-filling the filter a 'challenge... :)

I don't know what year or engine, but between a young employee, a phone call, and another customer asking questions, the hood was lowered on a Jeep Cherokee and the customer drove away. 45 minutes later she called from the grocery store parking lot and said her Jeep was making loud noise. She had driven it a mile and half or more with no oil at all. It was filled with oil and told her that they'd change the engine with an equal or less mileage engine at no cost. It was the mother of the shop owner's friend so they told her to let them know when it starts to knock. It has been a couple of years and she's had a few oil changes since then and no problems. My impala has a sideways filter in a tight space, 250,000 miles, no problem. Three seconds to fill a tiny oil filter isn't going to hurt anything.

I fill the filter when I can without making a mess, but not sure it makes any difference. If the oil pump sends oil to the bearings etc first and then to the filter and oil gauge last filling the oil filter with oil isn't doing anything other than making you feel better cuz the oil gauge will show pressure a few seconds sooner.

Some do, some don't. I do take the time to fill it before on my 55. (my other vehicles go to the dealer so who knows what they do) For starters that's what my dad always did so like father, like son, Second I take my time and do it while the old oil is draining. Did you ever notice how much that filter absorbs, like almost a whole quart. It just slowly sucks it up. Thirdly, I don't have to start it up to "fill" the filter and then top it off. I just put six quarts in and I'm at the Full Mark.
Thats my story and I'm stickin to it.

If you can- prefill it. The Car Care Nut also says to change oil every 5,000 miles as the gas gets into the engine past the rings. Another YouTube interviewed a Nissan GTR engine builder and he said to use the cheapest oil and change it every 3,000 (or 4,000) miles. I use Mobil One and a Royal Purple oil filter for 7,500 miles. I think I may just go to Supertech 10,000 mile synthetic oil and filter and just change it every 5,000. Opinions?

I always do also. Common sense just tells me to do it.

I just happened to watch this video the other day. The common sense in it yelled at me again. Listen carefully to the lab results in this.
The presenter in this is Lake Speed Jr. (His dad is a former NASCAR driver) They are wise people.

I find it scary that people who drive cars on the same roads that I drive on think new oil out of a bottle needs to be filtered before it is used.
