I just finished mounting the new gas tank and sending unit in the '56 and now i'm trying to figure out the best place to mount the electric fuel pump and filter. The po mounted it in the engine compartment but i know it needs to be mounted as close to the fuel tank as possible.

I'm thinking of mounting it in the trunk between the spare tire well and the fender well. It would be easy to get to in the event of a failure and the filter would be easier to change. It would also be away from exhaust heat and road debris. At my age i just don't enjoy crawling around underneath a car like i used to (once i finally get my tired old body underneath it). Yes? No? Maybe?

Fuel pump location

Hi larry,
you need to mount the pump as close as possible to the tank ..they are not very good at pulling fuel..just pushing it...hehe. you also want to mount it as level as possible with the tank pickup.. not higher up in the trunk (which is not very safe if it decides to have a leaky seal). i mounted mine up behind the passenger top rear shock mount on the frame which is very close to level with the pickup and used about a foot of braided line to get to the tank pickup. mike
