I have completed the install of the narrowed Heidt's control arms. As reported the hardest part was removing the factory bump stop bracket. Shortening the tie rods also worked out ok but is a tight squeeze.

These 1.5" narrowed arms alon with the 13" ECI brake kit give a rotor mounting surface to rotor mounting surface of 57.5" With 225/70-15 tires on a 7" rim with 4.25" of back space I have 66.5" outside of tire to outside of tire measurment. This is too narrow but leaves plenty of options for less back spacing.

Thanks,

Ron

Well after double checking my math, I went the wrong way with my final measurement. Instead of going with a 4 1/8" BS, you probably want more like 3 1/2" BS Ron? I got lost in all the math and your post made me rethink everything. I'm thinking now that a 3 1/2" BS would put your wheels right about where ours are.

Hey Fifty Five, what R&P are you running? Do you like it? Any bump steer?
We're running the new style Flaming River system. I like it a lot. It works great, and looks good. Still hangs a little lower than I'd like, but nothing we can do about that on the stock frame. For the way we drive the car, I can say we don't have any bump steer at all. If it was driven in an autocross or track setup, I couldn't tell you for certain it wouldn't have any. But for "spirited" street driving there is no bump steer.

Great info! I am planning to order wheels today or tomorrow and I came up with nearly the same number you did. I put two 7/16-20 on 3 of the studs and then installed the mockup wheels. This gave me a simulated back spacing of 3.625" and 67.75" from outside to outside of tire.

Thank you

Fifty Five - I am not sure if I didn't read it before but whose spindle are you using? 2" dropped or not? I believe the Heidt's is part number SP-002 in red powdercoat 2" dropped. I am going to call Jegs today and ask why on thier web site it specifies in the description the a-arms are in fact black powdercoat. I spoke with Mark at Heidt's and he has said they don't even offer them in black PC. JEGS typo?
Furthermore, this has been a very helpful discussion and I hope to have it dialed in by the end of the week so I can order it all by the end of the week.

Sounds good to me. I think your 3.625 sounds really good. I think you'll end up with what you want at that BS. Good luck, and I'll be looking out for a post when you get the wheels and tires mounted. Should look really good.

Sorry Bad37, I'm running the Heidt's 2" drop spindles on ours. Ours are about 3-4 years old, so I don't know if the part numbers are the same. But they are the Heidt"s 2" drop spindles.

I'm never impressed with info on Jegs website. Seems like they just throw the part up there and you make sure it's what you want. If Heidt's says they don't coat them, I would say its a typo. I don't think Jegs takes them apart to coat them and puts them back together. We had to remove the ballpoints, and the bushings because of the heat from powdercoating. If you're going to coat the arms, I would highly recommend buying direct from Heidts and see if they can send you some arms disassembled. That way you can have them coated, then install the ballpoints and bushings. The ballpoints are $95 a piece, and not reusable.

Good to hear all of this helps. I had a heck of a time finding info like this when I was looking, let alone pictures. Look forward to hearing how it works out.

So after a week of phone calls and planning it has come to this:
Earle Williams modified stainless upper and lowers
Earle Williams 2" drop spindles powdercoated Wilwood red
Earle Williams modified bracket for the 6 piston also pwdercoated Wilwood red
Wilwood 12.19" discs drilled and slotted
I appreciate all the help and measurements given in this discussion. Earle himself has been a pleasure to work with and excellent in the abundance of knowledge.
With all that said I should have a stock position on the set up and run 4.5" backspace on my 17 x 7's which I have yet to order.......baby steps, right?
