Hood Pins

Before I bought my car I bought a glass hood that is held down by four pins. Now, I have the pins and can mount the front two as they mount through the radiator support cross bar.
The rear two pick up on the two holes that are normally rubber bunged, I bought two rubber clinch nuts, but they have a coarse thread and the pins are fine threads.

How has anyine mounted in these holes without cutting the fire wall for access behind??

Ideas, please.

I think the threaded holes you're talking about are also smaller than the typical pins.

If your car is completely apart, you could weld in a nut from the backside, though even there I think that area is over the cowl plenum instead of the passenger compartment. So access would be a problem.

A better and easier way might be to make an angle bracket and bolt it to the hood hinge hole.

How about using a bolt or allthread the same size as the current hole in the firewall as a hood pin? All you'd need is to make sure the length is correct and drill a cross through hole for the cotter pin to pass through. If you own a drill press, drilling these cross through holes would be that much easier.

But using a bolt or allthread the same size and thread as the current hole in the firewall let's you retain the stock hole "Just In Case" you want to re-use it again.

NOTE: Have access to a lathe? Turn the hood pin down and re-thread it to fit the stock firewall hole.

By the way, I want to fit the glass hood for racing only! ('Cos it's got a posers scoop on it!)

The rubber insert I want to use is an engineering mounting. It has a 'tube' or rubber with a threaded insert in one and and a 'flange' of rubber on the other.

The holes I am looking to use are 42" apart, each 5" from the top wing bolt and normally have grommets in them. They are not threaded. The passenger side one is right next to the body data plate......and yes, they are into the plenum.

The other problem is they are not 'flat' but curved like the panel. I need to 'pull' them to align with the hood holes.

I suppose I could get the threaded inserts turned down and a new threaded insert pressed in.

I did think of making brackets off the fender bolts and glassing on to the back of the hood a pair of Z pins to pick up on these. Then just use the front pins to hold the hood down. Then I could leave the brackets on at all times. (Using the four pins I would have to take the back two out to fit the original hood.)
