In the process of planning out electric power steering conversion on my '55 with 4L80 and will be moving the column shifter to the floor. I don't want to install a console as I want to retain my bench seat to maintain the sleeper look. Has anyone been able to source a floor shifter at the local u-pick and adapt it to this purpose? What make and year of car should I be looking into?

I see some members have gone with the Cadillac DTS shifter but the ones I have seen were installed in a console. Those seem to have a big footprint and may be hard to hide with just a boot. I like the foot print of the B&M Quicksilver but am just not ready to part with more than $500 for the real deal when floor shifter at my local u-pick is less than $20.

The problem is that the column will be heavily modified to install the electric power steering - the bottom of the column will be largely cut off. Does this attach to the existing shifter somehow? Can you post a link?

Used 60's early 70's Stang floor shifters a number of times. Can the stock cover & use a boot. Used a Ron Frances lighted shift indicator they are available in horizontal / vertical display. Link:

For one really tight A-Bone build I used a push / pull PTO cable through the dash + the linked indicator.
